Butterfly Identification Workshop
Head out into the field for a day of identifying butterflies on Portsdown Hill with consultant entomologist and author Bryan Pinchen.
Most people are familiar with many of our native butterflies, but some are trickier to identify than others. Learn how to recognise the differences between the butterfly families and similar looking butterflies in this one-day workshop.
The morning session will be at Portsmouth Museum, where we will be using insects from the museum’s and the tutor’s collection and identification keys to help identify some of the 59 butterfly species found in Britain.
The afternoon will be spent on Portsdown Hill looking at butterflies in the field and applying the identification techniques learnt in the morning.
This event is for adults aged 18+. It’s best suited to beginners and those looking to improve their insect identification skills.
Cost – £25, or £15 with Leisure Card.
